Robert Eberle’s work draws on the models of the Dutch Old Masters, and primarily depicts scenes featuring sheep and cows. The artist’s masterful skill enabled him to position his animals within detailed landscapes. He trained at the Munich Academy, where he was likely to have visited the Alte Pinakothek regularly to study Dutch painters, and their representations of animals in particular. Eberle soon built up a good reputation within Munich and was awarded numerous commissions. In addition to animals, he also depicted landscapes and alpine vistas.
