Roubíček René / Praha 1922 /
And Why Not! – Uranium Chandelier
Clear and uranium glass, hand made, polish stainless steel, hight 170 cm, diameter 150 cm, special edition, signed René Roubíček, made in Lasvit (Zí)
René Roubíček graduated in 1950 from the AAAD in Prague. He studied in prof. Kaplický’s studio. After his early work, in which he focused on decoratively cut vases, he became a freelance artist and he created a monumental object for EXPO 58 in Brussels, for which he won the Grand Prix. It was an abstract composition made of individual pieces of colored, thickly-modeled glass, which is fastened to a steel load-bearing structure. Colored, thickly-modeled glass became the leitmotif of his work. Master glassmaker Josef Rozinek from the Hantych and Nový Bor glassworks was one of his significant collaborators. He helped him realize difficult objects often used in architecture.
Besides kiln-shaped glass, René Roubíček also likes to work with panel or colorful cut glass. He often combines both and pastes them together in seemingly random compositions. He creates impressive works full of reflected light, mirroring, and sharp transitions of color. This artistic approach is best used for light fixtures, ceiling lighting and panels.
