Ice blue glass, fused in a mould, wires, signed Matouš 98, height (without the wires) 21 cm, diameter 32 cm (Zí)
Jaroslav Matouš first studied at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Železný Brod, then at the studio of prof. Kaplický and prof. Libenský at the AAAD in Prague. In 1988, he became a founding member of the Rubikon group together with Bohumil Eliáš, Jaromír Rybák, Marian Volráb, and Jan Exner. Rubikon was a loose group comprised of the leading glass artists who exhibited together in the Czech Republic and abroad.
In his work, Jaroslav Matouš uses an interesting technique that combines fused sculptures and soft wires with pieces of glass. This is how he creates objects of simple shapes, where a net of wires grows out of glass walls, which climbs up into the open space. The author thus achieves remarkable fragility and subtleness.
