countless tiny dark-red glass beads on knotted silk threads, silver plated clasp, length approx. 50 cm. (MHA)

‘Lillie used her beadwork technique long before this art saw its recent revival, elaborating on and perfecting this type of jewellery made of innumerable natural, glass, or metal beads. It takes her hundreds of hours to complete an ornament’ (Robert K. Liu, in: Jacqueline I. Lillie, Works, Arbeiten, Oeuvres 1990–97, pp. 3/4). Jacqueline I. Lillie, born in Marseille in 1941, studied at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts in the metalwork master class under Professor Hagenauer from 1962 to 1965. She had numerous solo exhibitions in Vienna, New York, Sydney, and other cities in Austria, the USA, Canada, and Australia and received several awards for her work, which is conserved in the collections of important museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper Hewitt, and the Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, as well as the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna (pp. 12/13).
