Before the Second World War, Albert Rastl worked as a postman in Grundlsee, as a post office official in Bad Aussee, and as the head of an office in 1944/45 also in Grundlsee. From around 1930, he started taking photographs as an amateur, but served as an apprentice after 1945, and passed his master exams. Worked in the photography trade, starting up as an independent photographer from 1949.
