China, c. 85 x 69 cm (incl. frame c. 95 x 80 cm), late 18th century, valuable silk textiles such as the present one are called kesi or k’o-ssu, exquisitely woven in kesi technique and numerous gold threads, with thin gold particles wrapped around a cotton core, two five-clawed dragons holding flaming pearls facing each other in a sea of clouds, surrounded by bats, fish, shells etc., the parting in the middle of the textile suggests that it may be the lower front side of a semi-formal man’s garment, a fine piece of craftsmanship in peaceful colours and good condition, a minor damage to the middle should still be repaired, mounted on linen and a wooden frame.
