August Specht was a pupil of Heinrich Läpple and Albert Kappis and became a German animal painter. In 1898 he published a book with animal pictures comprising plates and descriptions of animals in verses. He designed illustrations for the "Gartenlaube" and was a member of the Deutsche Künstlerbund (artists union).
