Provenance:
Collection Conte di Bardi (1851-1905), Lugt 336; Collection Charles Bigot (1781-1843), Lugt 493; anonymous collector’s mark; Private collection, Belgium.
The present drawing goes back to the composition of Raphael’s painting “The Entombment of Christ”, which is preserved in the Galleria Borghese in Rome today. The study may have been executed in connection with the painting by Daniele Crespi (1626) in the National Gallery in Budapest (Inv. 539).
