Xinjiang Palace Carpet Silk,
Kashgar (East Turkestan), c. 238 x 160 cm, 19th century, asymmetrical knot open to the left, c. 90,000 kts/sqm, cotton foundation, embedded metal threads: copper thread on yellow cotton core; on the grounds of its border drawings with large "Yün Tsai T'ou" border and colours, the present carpet can be attributed to Kashgar as its place of origin; on a central field brocaded with metal threads are nine petrol blue foo dogs with flaming pearls and a repeat of peonies and leaves; the carpet is in excellent state of preservation, with full silk pile and weaving finishes preserved on both sides; a very similar specimen was successfully sold at this auction house in April 2015.
