Sistan, North Persia (Iran), c. 148 x 84 cm, about 1900, as in most carpet groups, light-ground specimens are considered absolute rarities, and they are extremely rare also among Baluch carpets; tree of life motif with symmetrical flaring branches, surrounded by botehs, four-legged figures, small trees and vase-like motifs on white ground; its erstwhile soft wool quality is still palpable, even if the carpet appears heavily worn with consistently low pile, finish and corner damage, repaired selvedges. A collector’s carpet.
