Carl von Blaas was an Austrian history- and genre painter and the father of Eugen and Julius Blaas. He was professor at the Vienna Academy and he preferred religious motifs. The frescoes in the Altlerchenfeld church in Vienna and the ones in the so-called Ruhmeshalle (hall of fame) in the Museum of Military History in Vienna belong to his main works.
