Collection Dr. Arthur Feldmann (1877-1941), Brno; 15th March 1939 seizure by the Gestapo; 1947 acquisition by the Metropolitan Museum, New York (Lugt 1943); 2009 Restitution to the heirs after Dr. Arthur Feldmann. Literature:

Ä. als Zeichner: Herkunft und Nachfolge, Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, 19th Sept. 1975 – 16th November 1975, No. 276, fig. 236, as Tobias Verhaecht (?); Terèz Gerszi, "Neue Aspekte der Kunst Frederik van Valckenborchs", in: Jahrbuch der Berliner Museen, 1990, Vol. 32, pp. 173-189, p. 175 (fig. 4).

The present drawing, originally attributed to Tobias Verhaecht (Antwerp 1561-1631) and Pieter van den Hoeck (c. 1603-1626), shows similarities with several sheets by Frederik van Valckenborgh from his Italian period. An attribution to this artist can be excluded because of stylistic reasons. For thematically comparable sheets by Valckenborch see Gerszi 1990, pp. 173-189.
