China, c. 175 x 156 cm, 17th/18th century, silk and gold embroidery with cotton core on felt and cotton ground, the hanging is embroidered with a monumental, five-clawed dragon in a sea of clouds flanked by cranes, borders with shou symbols and bats, very archaic design in the lower end with wave and mountain motifs and four Buddhist emblems (canopy, sacred parasol, shell and flaming wheel), which suggests old age, excellent colour and overall condition, some insignificantly damaged areas to the plain upper ground.
