silver, partly gilt; oval body on four narrow feet; hinged cover; the side and cover with stylised, partly openwork decoration of silver threads and set with coloured-glass cabochons, including carnelians and chrysoprases; the side of the box with four round medallions in the shape of blossoms and rosettes and four rectangular panels with leafy tendrils and sketched blossoms; beaded decoration; marked with 900, OD, Diana’s head silver purity hallmark (900) and A on the inside of the cover, on the outer rim of the lower part and partly on the underside; traces of use; height 12.2 cm, length 16.2 cm, width 11.9 cm; weight: 943.9 g; (MP)

Provenance:
German Private Ownership. The jewellery box was displayed at the Austrian Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Vienna in 1910/11.
