The Kuffner family came from Lindenburg, Moravia. Their company became known in Austria over several generations for the production of alcoholic beverages. Kuffner & Redlich founded the Ottakringer Brewery in Vienna in 1892. Moriz von Kuffner, Ottakring 1854-1939 Zurich, founded the Kuffner Observatory in Vienna. For his services to science, the Asteroid No. 12,568 was named after Moriz von Kuffner in 2006. Three members of the family were raised to the hereditary nobility by Emperor Franz Joseph I: 1878 Ignaz Kuffner, knight of the Imperial Austrian Order of Franz Joseph; 1900 Herrmann (Hirsch) Kuffner, knight of the Imperial Austrian Order of Franz Joseph; 1904 Karl Kuffner, industrialist, Hungarian nobility with the title “de Diószegh”.
