Johannes Borman
(active in Leiden and Amsterdam, died after 1660)
Oranges, lemons and peaches on a tin plate and a Wan-Li-bowl,
oil on canvas, 66 x 52.5 cm, framed
The present painting is a typical composition for Johannes Borman. The very rare artist, born probably in The Hague, was influenced by Jan Davidsz. de Heem and Willem Kalf. He was specialised in fruit still lifes, depicting grapes, peaches, lemons and nuts on a silver plate, sometimes with a filled glass and insects.
