The painter Cornelis Dusart was a pupil and collaborator of Adriaen van Ostade. He was influenced by the latter’s late period. The peasant types he painted tend to be more hideous and wilder than Ostade’s figures. His best works have often been confused with Adriaen van Ostade’s paintings. Dusart remained very close to his teacher whose bequest he inherited and even adapted some of his teacher’s works. Many of the frequent old copies after Ostade have been wrongly attributed to Dusart.
