Rather than being brusquely refused, he was advised to return to the Palace in a few weeks' time. The tailor perceived the rosy dawn of unprecedented honour. Meanwhile the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory was commissioned to produce the above figural group. On the appointed day of his introduction to the court table, he was lead from room to room, heightening his anticipation until it became nearly unbearable. His surprise and disappointment was all the greater when he arrived at the festively decorated table only to come face to face with his image in porcelain"
