This Baroque goblet features an allegory of MARS SAXONIA, the Saxon god of war, ALSO DEN SÄCHSISCHEN SOLDATEN refers to the 8000 Saxon soldiers who fought at the relief battle on 12 September 1683 under King Jan Sobjeski and who according to the inscription were the first to happily charge at the Turks, HIC FAUSTE PRIMIS INHOSTES IRRIUT, and therefore were instrumental in helping to liberate Vienna VIENNA LIBERATA.
