Tashkent Suzani,
Uzbekistan, c. 238 x 184 cm, first half of the 19th century, on the grounds of its colours, style and pattern with circular, cochineal-dyed primary motifs, the present five-panel silk embroidery must be regarded as a typical piece of craftsmanship from the city of Tashkent in Northern Uzbekistan; its many colours in the rare small-pattern floral segment and the balanced arrangement of pomegranates suggest that this piece is an early, extremely high-quality specimen from the aforementioned group that cannot be compared with the glut of more recent specimens of the same group; a very similar Suzani has been published by Vok; complete all around and original with only minimal signs of wear to the pattern, very beautiful age patina, mounted on linen, some staining, dusty.
