Eagle II Torba,
West Turkestan, c. 51 x 136 cm, late 19th century, several characteristics of the present item - its central field design with three complete and six halved guls, its borders, and its thick spun pile yarn - suggest it belongs to the “eagle” gul group II, since it was not produced by the Tekke, although according to structural tests and research conducted by Anette and Volker Rautenstengel no cotton wefts could be detected, and for this reason no final documented attribution is possible; in any case the present piece is a very rare single-row torba in superb state of preservation.
