This canvas is a study or bozzetto by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro for the altarpiece conserved in the church of Santa Maria dei Sette Dolori, Naples, representing Saint Albert healing the sick and the dying.
Domenico Antonio Vaccaro was a sculptor and painter born in Naples in 1678; he began his career alongside his father Lorenzo, and following an apprenticeship with Francesco Solimena. He became one of the leading exponents of the Neapolitan baroque of the eighteenth century.
