Pair of important French Empire armchairs,
The period known as the first Empire, circa 1805/10, attributed to JACOB, and stamped TH, with the Royal crown with 3 lilies on the underside of the frieze. Hardwood chairs on claw feet, the frieze slightly serpentine in shape at the front, with a dark finish, carved with acanthus leaves and palmettes and painted with gold, the armrests supported by swan heads carved fully in the round and painted gold, with restored upholstery. Some traces of ageing and wear. (DOC)
