Neo-Renaissance cabinet,
Stamped verso L. MALARD 9bis rue Maubeuge Paris, end of the 19th century. A modified piece modelled after the French Renaissance style. Made in walnut and oak shaped as a column with superstructure, a moulded cornice with 3 doors, the 2 outer doors concave and painted with portrait medallions (signed Louis Doyen 1864-1943) resting on turned columns, with a high quality relief carving of Diana, the frieze below flanked by winged boys’ heads, the two-door body of the cabinet supported by sphinxes. Ca. 245 x 210 x 74 cm. In cared-for condition. (DOC)
