This depiction follows a gouache on cardboard, following a design by Raffael, 1483- 1520, from the bathroom of Cardinal Bibiena, 1513-1620, in the Vatican, Rome. This gouache was created by Michelangelo Maestri, 1750-1812 Rome. His very decorative gouaches feature motifs of the Antique spaces in Pompeii and Herculaneum that had been discovered shortly before or are based on designs by Raffael and his student Giulio Romano, as in this case. Raffaelo Santi, Urbino 6.4.1483-6.4.1520 Rome, Italy. Painter and master builder, called to Rome by Papst Juluis II and made head builder of St Peter's church by Leo X in 1515 as well as conservator of Antique memorials.
