A stool, School of Adolf Loos,
first half of the 20th century, dainty solid wood construction on four legs with multiple colours. Height c. 41.5 cm, width c. 38 cm, depth c. 31 cm. (MHA)
The model for this type of stool comes from Ancient Egypt (1300 B.C.) and first entered Western living space in England in 1883 (as “Thebes Stool”). Loos probably used the three-legged version of the stool in his apartment for the first time in 1903. The stool repeatedly featured in photographs of the interiors of several Loos villas until 1927.
