c. 1970, for L’Atelier, sculptural construction made of chromium plated and black lacquered steel, with bent and ergonomically moulded plywood, with rosewood veneer, unattached seat, back and armrest cushions, brown leather cover. Dimensions: height c. 76 cm, width c. 82 cm, depth c. 110 cm, height of seat c. 50 cm. (MHA)

Born in Poland in 1922, Jorge Zalszupin emigrated to Brazil after World War II. There he came in contact with the influential architect Oscar Niemeyer, among others. His designs are characterised by a sculptural formal language in which geometric lines and organic forms coexist in fruitful exchange. He founded his own company, L’Atelier, in order to consolidate the connection between architecture and furniture construction. L’Atelier was a design collective made up of architects, engineers, craftsmen and an extensive team of professionals. Designs by L’Atelier are still regarded as milestones of modernism today.
