This is a very important work in Federico Moja‘s oeuvre. He had travelled to Paris in 1830, where he remained for four years. The piece depicts one of the many old villages in this region of France, recognisable thanks to the ancient bell towers of its churches and town halls. It can be assumed that the painting, intended to evoke a landscape in the north of the country, may have been painted after Federico Moja’s return to Milan between 1835 and 1840, before the artist moved to Venice.
