Wangden Drumze, - Tappeti orientali, tessuti, arazzi

Wangden region (Central Tibet), c. 60 x 73 cm, around 1900, this monastic carpet was used by monks in the Tibetan cultural area as an elevated throne seat to warm them during long meditations or ceremonies, pieces such as the present one have their very own knotting structure, are very coarsely crafted with visible wool warp threads at the back and red fringing along the edges, primitive design with four squares surrounded by a heavily stylised meander border, very good condition with fur-like, deep pile.
