Private collection, Germany.
Very excellent, even and vigorous impression of this utmost rare etching. According to Usticke “A rare and famous small self portrait (RRR)”. In an excellent condition.
The present etching may represent Rembrandt in 1634, the year when he married Saskia, whereas Seitdlitz dated the print somewhat earlier to 1631, when Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam. The sheet titled “Rembrandt aux troix moustaches” by Bartsch and mentioned by Nowell-Usticke as (RRR) “extremely rare” counts without any doubt to the rarest self-portraits of the artist.
