“PROTOTYPE 4OLGA” (for Olga) Armchair, designed by William Sawaya,

“PROTOTYPE 4OLGA” (for Olga) Armchair, designed by William Sawaya, - Design

2013, for Sawaya & Moroni, Italy, multilayer wood, glossy black lacquer finishing, height 81 cm, length 83 cm, depth 76 cm, height of seat 38 cm. (DRAX)

Unique prototype of a limited series of 10 pieces presented during Salone del Mobile in Milano 2013, it is the unique piece produced in multilayer wood with glossy lacquer finishing in black colour.

“4 Olga” armchair, something of a dynamic acrobatics of volume, a successful, effervescent somersault, that designs and models how its surface develops, extending downwards from the backrest to define the supports, then curving back up to form the seat and the armrests, before lastly plunging down again to end in the last points of stability.

The description makes “4 Olga” sound like a swirling movement that might leave you breathless, although it is the ultimately static development of the finished chair that highlights its development. The dynamism that underlines this process of composition is transformed into a unitary, basic sign whose plastic and sculptural values are notable, although they are not the end in themselves.
