signed HENRY DASSON 1880 on the fittings on the side, in the manner of 18th-century French master cabinet makers such as RIESENER and CARLIN, mahogany veneered hardwood frame with three-quarter columns and fluting decoration on so-called ‘spinning top feet’, bronze doré fittings in panels, festoon decor with porcelain medallions (Sèvres), each with 2 doors and compartments, brass rails, white-grey marble tops, c. 115 x 43 x 36 cm, in restored condition, some cracking and evidence of restoration. Superb quality. Denry Dasson (1825-1896) was known for his strikingly detailed copies of original furniture by famous master cabinet-makers from the 18th century. For the present pair of pier cabinets he was inspired by the cabinet-makers RIESENER and CARLIN, who worked for the French royal court.
