The present painting is registered in the Fototeca Zeri as Maestro dell’Infanzia (no. 2801).
We are grateful to Alessandro Tomei for confirming the attribution of the present painting on the basis of a digital photograph.
The Sermon of Saint James the Great can be compared to other works by Jacopo di Cione, such as the so-called Pala della Zecca executed in 1372–1373 together with Niccolò di Tommaso (Florence, documented 1346–1376) and Simone di Lapo (Florence, documented 1371–1372) which is now conserved in the Galleria dell’Accademia, Florence (inv. no. 1890, n. 456) as well as the panel of the Madonna and Child in Glory between Angels and Saints in the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, Pennsylvania (inv. no. 60.04 KBS ).
