The present composition displays a close observation of nature, as revealed by the rendering of each piece of fruit, in a manner typical of Lombard painting. The various types of fruit are positioned symmetrically on a stone ledge and they are divided in an orderly, almost encyclopedic manner.
The descriptive clarity of the fruit and vine leaves point to Lombard painting of the late cinquecento and early seicento and particularly to an artist around Fede Galizia, Panfilo Nuvolone and especially of Bernardo Polo, formerly identified by the monikers Pseudo Hiepes or Master of the Lombard Fruit Bowl (active in the 17th Century). He is a representative of the intersection of Hispano-Lombard art.
