An Ensemble of Standardised “Frankfurt Kitchen” Furniture Elements”, designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky
1926, for Grumbach, Frankfurt (attributed), for the Frankfurt Hochbauamt. Various types of wood chosen according to functional criteria (such as oak wood against mealworms, beech for the countertop, softwood for the frame), with reconstructed original turquoise-green lacquer coating, with historical cast iron double sink and draining board in white ceramic, linoleum and wood shelves, metal fittings, each with 1 oak and pinewood container, 12 aluminium containers. With ironing board and stool. Dimensions: height c. 220 cm x 128 cm x 234 cm / 48 cm. (MHA)
An early model, with containers mounted in the lower section of the upper cabinet. Example of an original “Frankfurt Kitchen” with waste drawers and sink from Ernst May’s Römerstadt housing estate, Frankfurt. Overall planning: Ernst May, Herbert Brehm and Wolfgang Banger, “Department of Standardisation and Planning”, Building Surveyor’s Office (Hochbauamt) of the City of Frankfurt, and others. Responsible for the development of the “Frankfurt Kitchen”: Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky.
