- Imperial Order of the Mexican Eagle with brilliants - personal Grand Cross jewel of the emperor as Sovereign of the Order, gold, diamonds, jade, enamel, sculptural eagle, sword, sceptre and crown partly set with old-cut diamonds and rhombs, cacti set with jade, crown with red enamel lining, 7.2 x 4 cm (without band ring), overall weight 45 g, on old original Grand Cross sash, in the original violet velvet-covered case with applied silver-gilt monogram "MIM" and Mexican imperial crown, on the inside company name "K. K. Hof-Goldarbeiter und Juwelier Rothe Wien Kohlmarkt 7", case 29 x 13 x 6 cm, (Lu)

A personal treasure of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico in exceptionally luxurious execution. The Imperial Mexican Order of the Eagle was founded by Maximilian on 1 January 1865 and was the highest order of the Mexican Empire. The present item from the property of the emperor is in this form and design a unique specimen. After the death of Emperor Max of Mexico, this personal object was given to his parents, Archduke Francis Charles and Archduchess Sophie. They in turn gave it to Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, as a memento of his uncle.

Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, Crown Prince Rudolf, by inheritance to his daughter Archduchess Elisabeth (“Erszi”) and her descendants.
