horizontal movement, spring driven, verge escapement, length of movement 1 week, 1/4 hour striking mechanism with double strike on top mounted bell, incomplete repeater striking mechanism, oversized double bombé enamel dial, engraved gilt hands, on the underside a solid musical mechanism with 19 hammers on 9 bells, spring-driven movement via chain and fusee, roll with 11 melodies, wooden frame with red tortoiseshell cover, glazed bronze door on the front, on the sides bronze sound apertures, rocaille feet and mounts, 168 cm, France, c. 1750/70, signs of age and use, no warranty for completeness and long-term functioning, 1 console, 1 clock case finial, 1 pendulum, 1 key, ASA (subject to conservation legislation) (HP)
According to the inventory of the Palace in Aachen of Baron Cols-Breughen. Technique and melodies suggest an attribution to the “Jacquet-Droz” workshop in Neuchatel, the most important manufacturer of automatons and musical mechanisms (1721-90).
