Arkimia combines a typically Italian language of form with Eastern Asian aestheticism and traditional craftsmanship. The original project sprang from the encounter of Mauro Gaspari, with his creative ideas, and architect and designer Giulio Ceppi, with his innovative thinking. The materials and processes used in the making of Arkimia products are certified and sustainable. They were honoured with an Impresa Cultura Award (2000) and nominated for the XXth and XXIth Compasso d’Oro (2004, 2008); further awards: ICSID Hall of Fame (2007), Confcommercio Award for Innovation (2010, 2013, 2016), Dedalo Minosse International Prize, and Design for All Italy Award (2014). Giulio Ceppi, born in 1965, studied visual design and architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, where he has taught since his graduation in 1994. He deals with sensory and material design and new technologies and strategies for innovation. Until 1997 he worked at the Domus Academy (a private design school in Milan), where he installed the course Master in Business Design. In 1999 he founded Total Tool, a company for visionary design strategies with offices in Milan and Buenos Aires, which has conducted more than 250 projects on five continents. He has held lectures in 25 countries around the globe, published countless essays on design, and organised numerous exhibitions. He has been nominated multiple times for the Compasso d’oro and the Dedalo Minosse International Prize. Giulio Ceppi lives and works in Milan and on Lake Como.
