porcelain, the body with defined neck and foot, wide gold interior edge, the exterior with Leithner’s blue ground and Leithner’s gold décor, wide and narrow gilt edging, gold-painted frieze of hanging leaves and blossoms, gold arches and wide gilt edging, baluster with gold strings of pearls, the facing side and reverse with large acanthus leaf tendrils painted in impasto manner, surmounted by leafy medallion with delicate acanthus leaves and budding twigs, flanked by gold meanders, the base of the body with border of fine gold palmette leaves and buds on wide gilt edging, foot with gold hanging foliate frieze and wide gilt edging, handles with gold goat’s heads, height 7.5 cm, 1 vase with restored areas, 1 vase with 4 restored buck’s ears

Neuwirth, Wiener Porzellan 1718-1864, p. 42; Leithner Josef 1770-1829 at the manufactory, studied at the Vienna Academy, from 1770 flower painter, no. 48, from 1785-1787 head painter at the manufactory, after 1797 arcanist. Inventor of the colour "Leithnerblau" in 1792, "Leithnergold" in 1793, recipient of a gold medal ("goldene Medaille mit Öhr und Band") on 30.12.1812. He celebrated his 54th year of service on 2.8.1824, and took over the stewardship from the factory management on 25.9.1829.
