RIGOLETTO COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI)

RIGOLETTO COSTUME (»RIGOLETTO« - GIUSEPPE VERDI) - Costume Treasures of the Vienna State Opera

Director: Sandro Sequi
Costume Designer: Giuseppe Crisolini-Malatesta
Premiere: March 13, 1983
Size: EU 56*
Director Sandro Sequi sets the tragic story of the court jester in a modeled Renaissance setting, just as the lavishly designed and exquisite costumes are inspired by historical models. This costume was created by the Roman tailor Tirelli, who by their outstanding craftsmanship and historically well-founded fashions for films have made an international name for themselves - the craftsmen have worked together with directors from Fellini to Visconti to Scorsese and Minghella, and have won multiple Oscars. Rigoletto's court jester costume is strongly accentuated in color and symbolizes the wealth of the court through noble materials and a fine cut, whereby the pointed cap and also the garish color scheme compared to the duke, refers to his function as a joker. The singers who portrayed the character's tragedy in this costume have included Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci, Giuseppe Taddei, Franz Grundheber and Dmitri Hvorostovsky. The costume is made of precious materials, is highly historically detailed, and consists of a pointed hat, collet (jacket), vest, breeches, and is in good condition.
*As the costume was made to measure for the singer, it may differ from the standard size.
