The theater and film director Silviu Purcarete and his set and costume designer Helmut Stürmer had the action take place in a kind of Mediterranean theater museum, in which the actors slowly come to life. The costumes are historical, but in this theater-within-a-theater play they should also be understood as valuable theater costumes from a rich treasury.
The tenor role of the tragic title hero, who ends up dying on the scaffold for his secret, forbidden love, was sung by KS Ramón Vargas at the premiere and 16 more times, and as well by José Bros, Stefano Secco, Josef Calleja, Celso Albelo and Zoran Todorovich. His costume consists of a collet (jacket) and breeches. All the materials used (silk, linen, cotton) are solidly processed with silver paint and thus have a high degree of strength and rigidity.
The costume shows some material damage.
