In her directorial work from 2006, Christine Mielitz shows Otello as a "fighting machine" (that she so apostrophized) who is the only one strong enough to defeat the enemies of Venice. At the same time, he is someone who can bring his strengths into play only in a war situation, and fails at interpersonal relationships and in peacetime. He is a champion who only exists in the ring. Mielitz consequently shifted the plot to a martial arts ring in which Otello is the star. Cassio, who ignites his jealousy, is kept in a martial costume in keeping with the warlike atmosphere: a blood-stained coat, functional clothing reminiscent of combat. It is made of polyester, partly covered with heavy acrylic paint. At the premiere conducted by Daniele Gatti, the costume was worn by the young ensemble member Marian Talaba, and later by tenors such as Gergely Németi and Jinxu Xiahou.
This costume consists of a shirt, trousers and coat and is in very good condition.
*As the costume was made to measure for the singer, it may differ from the standard size. The trousers were tucked tighter on the mannequin and appear smaller.
