A Tapestry “Le Triomphe de Mercure”, - Di provenienza aristocratica

Brussels, c. height 388 x width 565 cm, first half of the 18th century, cross-woven silk and wool weaving in the late neoclassical tradition. A fine depiction of flying Mercury with winged helmet and the caduceus between rooster and putto, with merchants, elegant ladies, servants and dockers unloading noble goods from ships underneath. The present item’s high quality workmanship creates an impressive effect. The lower part of the picture bears the Brussels city mark and the signature of the maker Urban and Daniel IV Leyniers, who produced outstanding works between 1729 and 1747. Completely preserved with corroded silk areas, and minimal old repairs. Entirely mounted on linen. (VP)
