Ivory Coast. Wood, sacrificial patina. 55 cm. In the spiritual world of the Baule, the Bush or blo stands for chaos, the unknown and the supernatural. Given offerings, to appease the dangerous spirits with an egg in the cup held between the hands, these figures are powerful objects, forbidden to be seen in public. In many ways, these zoomorphic features can be found in the men's ceremonial mask, combining animal and human traits.
