An exceptional and monumetal Senufo Sejen bird.
Ivory Coast. Wood. 63 cm, 36 cm and 37 cm. Early 20th century. The'Poro' society is the central association in Senufo culture, referring to the 'Old Mother', the female origin of the supreme deity as the protector of the 'Poro' initiates. Presented on a high pole for all to see, these birds are symbolic representations of both, fertility and social cohesion between the different generations. (VJ)
