Germany 2017, stainless steel, welded, facetted, signed and dated: xaver 2017, c. 85 x 40 x 43 cm. (DRAX)
A unique piece.
“Chairs run through the work of Stuttgart artist Xaver Sedelmeier. According to their outer form, they are chairs - but are they for sitting on? The separation of form and function by means of minimal yet precise interventions in an everyday object’s formal structure, indeed in its essence, is the core of Sedelmeier’s artistic method. Especially the work RINGCHAIR shows the interplay between function and art. Can you sit on it? An object that looks like a chair, is made of solid stainless steel, but may not be for sitting on at all, raises questions. Sedelmeier does not reassemble existing chairs, but creates new objects from raw material.” (Hansjörg Fröhlich)
