Only few specimens from Heriz document the heyday of its carpet production in the second half of the 19th century as impressively as this magnificent pure silk carpet. The fascinating receptiveness and combinability of the Bakhshaish region, which mediates between the Caucasus and Central Persia, are apparent in this item. Floral designs, which characterised the manufactories of Persia from the Safavid period onwards, blend with the geometric austerity of the Caucasus to create a bizarre formal language. In very good condition for its age. (VP)
