so-called ‘Kaiserin Augusta’ piano, special production, late 19th century, produced by Hof-Piano-Fabrik CONRAD KRAUSE in Berlin, no. 4042, 7 octaves, cross-stringing, black lacquered wooden body on brass casters with elaborately carved and gold painted decor in the form of eagle caryatids on turtles, with flower garlands, mythical creatures and fluted flower columns, carved lion’s head underneath the keyboard, the sides with high quality carvings of musical instruments as allegories of music and gold painted wood applications, swivelling bronze candlestick, ivory keyboard, c. 140 x 155 x 75 cm, several carved parts missing or broken, without guarantee for tone, signs of age and use. Princess Augusta Marie Luise Katharina of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1811-1890), Queen of Prussia and German Empress, was the wife of Emperor Wilhelm I (1791-1888) .
