F. LINKE (1855-1946) is regarded as the most important Parisian cabinetmaker of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In his younger years he worked as an assistant in a Prague workshop before emigrating to Germany and eventually travelling to Paris in 1877. In 1881, he opened his own workshop and produced furniture for more established cabinetmakers, such as JANSEN and KRIEGER. In his works he was inspired by various artistic styles, from the French Rococo and Classicism through to Régence, Louis XV and Louis XVI. He achieved his international breakthrough with the award of a gold medal for a magnificent desk at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900. LINKE participated in various world exhibitions, which enabled him to expand his clientele and supply important customers from the nobility and high finance (Vanderbilt, Rothschild etc.). .
