A Console or Games Table,

A Console or Games Table, - Mobili e Antiquariato

MAISON MILLET Paris, late 19th century, partly solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, with boxwood marquetry lattice pattern, polished finish, high-quality gilt bronze mounts partly in the form of fauns, turned fluted feet, the rear ones extendible, exquisitely moulded hinged top, the interior with felt lining, 72.5 x 85 x 42.5 cm, in beautiful professionally restored condition. (MIN)

Maison Millet was founded by Theodore Millet in 1853. The company produced luxury furniture and gilt bronze objects of the highest quality, mainly furniture in 18th-century style. An increasing demand led Millet to outsource some of his orders to other renowned cabinet-makers. One of them was François Linke, the undisputed leader among the furniture makers of the “Belle Epoque”. The present games table could also be from his workshop. The characteristic diamond-shaped marquetry of the table top is typical of his work and was illustrated by Christopher Payne on page 399 of his great reference work for François Linke. Millet won a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1889 and the Grand Prix at the Exposition in 1900. Maison Millet remained active as a manufacturer until 1902 and as a dealer until 1906. .
